This 172-acre parcel constitutes the western boundary of the prestigious Santa Lucia Preserve and overlooks Carmel Bay and Point Lobos. The grassy knolls along that western mountain range have very thin topsoil and expose large swaths of the local stone outcroppings which create a beautiful pattern in the landscape. It was these rock outcroppings that inspired the layered approach of stone site walls and the stone-clad bedroom wing. Juxtaposed is a great room glass pavilion which is all about the views in all direction – the canyon, the ocean, the gentle hills towards the east. The material and color palette is kept simple and understated to subordinate to the magical surroundings.
