Carmel, CA In Progress

Project

Project Details

This new cabin is replacing another and is located in Palo Colorado Canyon, a place with a lot of history. Originally settled by Tan Bark Oak harvesters at the beginning of the 19th century it became a beloved vacation spot for inland residents fleeing the summer heat. Until recently these cabins were not permanently occupied because of the damp and dark nature of the narrow Canyon, shaded not only by the oak forest but by many majestic redwoods.
While this summer residence will be larger than most of the historic cabins we broke it down into smaller individual cabin-like structures, connected only by glazing for clear separation. Each room has a high vaulted ceiling to grab as much light as possible and allow for treetop views.
