Mary Ann has been a practicing architect for more than two decades. A native of Austria, Mary Ann brings a European sensibility to the practice of sustainable building and design. She is a leader in the integration of green design principles with strong thematic design concepts. She is known for creating designs that offer classic simplicity and natural elegance, efficient floor plans and easy flow. Mary Ann has practiced architecture in Germany, Austria and Spain. She taught design at the Lyceum and lectured on design principles at the Cherry Foundation and at the San Francisco Design Center. Her work is widely published, and she frequently speaks on green design principles and the use of sustainable materials.


Sri Shankar – Executive Assistant
B.S. in Accounting, Madras, India
Monterey Peninsula College, A.A. in Interior Design

Sri has a degree in accounting and interior design that is complemented by six years of professional experience managing accounting, finance and contract management functions of architectural, construction and real estate development firms. Sri also has retail business experience. Sri joined the firm in 2012 as the bookkeeper but has now moved into being Mary Ann’s Executive Assistant.


Jay Auburn – Permit Coordinator
Saddleback College & Diablo Valley College

Jay joined Studio Schicketanz in 2001. He has 13 years of experience in planning and building permit processing in Monterey County, mostly in the Coastal Zone. Jay is also responsible for coordinating with project consultants, preparing community LUAC meetings, and working with MPWMD. Part of the planning process is working closely with the County Project Planners, processing applications, preparing for public hearings, handling condition fulfillment, and monitoring mitigation deadlines. Jay also coordinates building maintenance for several long-time clients.


Alem Dermicek – AIA, LEED Green Associate – Associate Architect
University of Zagreb, Architectural Engineering & Urban Design

Alem has been a California-licensed architect since 1991 and has practiced architecture in the United States for 30 years. During this time, he has gained extensive experience with design and construction of mid-rise residential and commercial buildings. He earned his Architectural Engineering and Urban Design degree from the University of Zagreb in Croatia. Alem joined Studio Schicketanz in a desire to participate in the sustainable design (LEED) of cutting edge modern homes and commercial projects.


Kieran Martin – AIA, LEED AP BD+C – Associate Architect
Rensselaer Polytechnic University, Masters of Architecture
Humboldt State University, B.S. International Business & Economics

Licensed in California and New York, Kieran has a wide range of architectural experience in designing higher education and commercial campuses. He strives for sustainability at all scales of design and has completed LEED certified projects in New York, Massachusetts, and California. He earned his Masters of Architecture degree at RPI, focusing on complex building types and the integration of architectural and structural design. Kieran has joined Studio Schicketanz to take part in contemporary projects which blend effortlessly into their delicate environments.


Lorena Akin – LEED AP – Intern Architect
North Carolina State University, Masters of Architecture
Autonomous University of Chiapas, Mexico, Bachelor’s in Architecture

Lorena brings with her a wealth of varied experience, from construction settings in Latin America to commercial and residential design at offices in the United States. With a focus on sustainable design, she implements her Building Information Management (BIM) software knowledge to tackle projects efficiently from initial concept to completion. Lorena joined Studio Schicketanz after completing her Master of Architecture degree at North Carolina State University and an ensuing internship with a large national architecture firm.


Jonas Raniel D. Santiago – LEED Green Associate – Intern Architect
Adamson Univeristy, Manila Philippines, B.S. in Architecture

Jonas has over 10 years of experience working in a diversified range of residential architecture. He earned his bachelors of architecture in 2003 from Adamson University in the Philippines. After passing his native country’s architectural licensure exam in 2006, he moved to Singapore where he joined an architectural consulting firm that specializes in mid-rise commercial projects and high-rise residential condominiums. In early 2015, Jonas joined an interior renovation contracting firm in Singapore to further his understanding of on-site building and overall construction. Since his return to the United States, Jonas joined Studio Schicketanz and continues to bring valuable knowledge and experience to the firm.


Jacobus Swarts – Intern Architect
New Jersey Institute of Technology, B.A. in Architecture

Jacobus has worked extensively as an architectural designer since completing his BA Architecture degree at NJ Institute of Technology in 2004.  His portfolio of work encompasses residences, wineries and restaurants in the USA and South Africa, his country of birth. These are testimonial of his ability to visualize and realize spaces which uniquely respond to and are in symbiosis with their environment.


Kumaresh Sekaran – Consulting Architect
University of Arizona, Masters of Architecture
REC Trichy, India, Bachelors of Architecture

Kumaresh has twenty three years of experience in the field of architecture. He has designed buildings from bungalows to high-rises and contributed to urban planning and mixed use developments in Singapore, Malaysia, china and Taiwan. Later, He relocated to Colorado where he specialized in ski resort residential villas. In California, his projects include transit systems in San Jose and coastal properties in the BigSur Area. Kumaresh’s architecture has been showcased in several publications in the US and India. He lectures at CBT college and is a visiting design studio faculty member at RV College of Architecture. Now working with Studio Schicketanz on a consulting basis, he continues to be a valuable asset to our team.


Nicole Priddy – LEED AP BD+C, Allied ASID – Interior Designer
James Madison University, B.F.A. in Interior Design, Minor in Art History

Nicole has five years of experience in the design field with a background in residential interiors and furnishings. After receiving a BFA in Interior Design with a minor in Art History in 2010 from James Madison University, she worked as a designer on homes in Virginia Beach and Washington, DC before moving west. With a keen interest in sustainable design and a passion for the environment, she pursued LEED AP in Building Design and Construction and is an Allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers.


Akhila Ghattamaneni – Interior Designer
New England School of Art & Design, M.A. in Interior Architecture
Manipal University, B.Sc. Film Design, Major in Set Design

Akhila earned her bachelor’s degree in Film Design with a major in Set Design from Manipal University, India. She worked in Bangalore, India as a set designer for three years before pursuing her masters in Interior Architecture at the New England School of Art & Design in Boston, MA. Prior to joining Studio Schicketanz, Akhila had the opportunity to intern with an architectural nonprofit based in Boston, MA which concentrates in ADA design and worked with Gensler architectural firm in a global internship program in Bangalore, India. Akhila is currently in pursuit of a LEED certification.


Meredith Sherwin – Interior Design Assistant
University of California, Irvine, B.A. in History & Film Studies

Meredith comes to Studio Schicketanz with three years of experience in coordinating residential interior design projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. She draws upon her background in retail and hospitality as well as her ability to multi-task to help facilitate the interior design process. Meredith is skilled in thoughtful project administration and enjoys finding order in chaos.


Stefanie Mckay – Interior Design Assistant
California State University, Chico, B.F.A. in Interior Architecture, Minor in International Business

Stefanie earned her B.F.A. in Interior Architecture from California State University Chico in 2016. During her studies, she had the opportunity to intern with a landscape architecture firm whose sustainable practices sparked her commitment to environmentally conscious design. Shortly after graduation, she eagerly returned to her native Monterey County to begin her career in the residential design industry. Stefanie joins Studio Schicketanz with a desire to contribute her knowledge and enthusiasm to the firm’s green building practices and designs.


Pam Contos – Bookkeeper

Pam is a skilled and dedicated Bookkeeper and Office Specialist with many years of experience, adept at developing and maintaining financial processes that improve and achieve expert organizational objectives. Her extensive background includes Executive Support and Bookkeeping at an architectural firm, Office Manager/Bookkeeper at a Certified Green food container manufacturing company, Executive Assistant to the Controller and Finance Department of a musical instrument manufacturing company, and Bank Supervisor. She has lived and worked in the Monterey area for the past twelve years, and is previously from the Santa Cruz and Marin County areas.


Maria Fisk – Administrative Assistant
Heald Business College, Associates Degree in Computer Business Administration

Maria originally developed a passion for customer service while working in the hospitality industry. She worked as a human resource coordinator and later was promoted to HR manager. Before joining Studio Schicketanz, Maria was an administrative assistant in the sales department at Monterey Hyatt. She brings a positive outlook, strong organizational skills, and a desire to help others to the team.
